Life Is Good; Daily AA Meetup
—————–
When: Tue, 9:00A _(60m)
Organizer: Mark Hansen, Mark has been sober for over 6 years. He realized that alcohol was becoming a problem in his life, and didn’t want to be remembered as being an alcoholic. He didn’t want his children to remember him that way, and he didn’t want to die from it. As a former park ranger and current security officer at a hospital, he has seen his fair share of what alcohol addiction can do to a person. He has witnessed people going through detox. He has seen the physical and psychological effects of it, and he has seen people die from alcoholism and drug overdose. He didn’t want that inanimate object (alcohol) to win over his life, so he decided to be a warrior and a soldier to defeat it. Be a warrior. Life is Good!
For Whom: For anybody who is sober or trying to stay sober during the week, and for anybody who might be having a difficult time with substances and trying to stop. Is alcohol or other substances becoming overwhelming, consuming, or taking over your life? Habits can become addictions for some people, and when it becomes a problem, it may be time to stop. When your body gets used to having foreign substances in it every day (such as alcohol), it may be physiologically very difficult to stop or change the habit/addiction. I’ve found it more helpful to talk with others who have actually gone through it, than to talk with counselors who haven’t. —Mark

Advanced Crochet: Learn Tapestry Crochet
—————–
When: Tue, 10:00A _(60m)
Instructor: Eryn Thompson, Eryn has completed several projects in tapestry crochet, refining her technique along the way.
For Whom: Happy Hookers already familiar with the basics of crochet and who want to learn an advanced technique should attend this class. Skills needed are knowing how to begin and make flat rectangular pieces in single crochet. Familiarity with changing yarn colors is a plus.
. . . In-class work will start with Foundation Single Crochet (FSC). Students are encouraged to watch some YouTube videos to gain familiarity with this stitch, but it’s not a requirement. Eryn will give a brief demonstration of FSC at the start of class, but FSC is not absolutely necessary for tapestry crochet, so knowledge of the basics (foundation chain and single crochet) will suffice.
. . . Students are required to bring 3 (or more!) distinct colors of yarn and their own hook sized to the yarn. For learning, it’s best to use yarn that isn’t very fluffy and doesn’t split readily, so you can clearly see all parts of your stitches. Eryn prefers to use regular worsted weight cotton yarn and a J hook, but students can choose whatever they are most comfortable with.
Description: Come learn an advanced crochet technique: Tapestry Crochet! In this class, you’ll learn how to switch colors seamlessly in the middle of a row so that you can make complex multicolored designs in your work. Eryn will share her tips on how to make it look good and polished without getting tangled up. Class project will be starting (probably not finishing) a simple rectangular piece, but students will be able to apply what they’ve learned to pieces done in the round. Eryn will likely be working on a Tapestry Crochet in-the-round piece while at the festival, so talk with her if you want tips on that.

Our Future Free State {Future Vision}
—————–
When: Tue, 4:00P _(60m)
Speaker: Jason Sorens {Website} {Pic}, The Free State Project was founded in 2001 by Jason Sorens, then a Ph.D. student at Yale University. Jason was studying independence movements in other countries and thinking about how liberty-minded folk could have an impact as a small minority in the world and the U.S. Jason published an article in The Libertarian Enterprise highlighting the failure of libertarians to elect any candidate to federal office and outlining his ideas for a migration movement that continues an American tradition of political migration, which includes groups such as Mormon settlers in Utah, Amish religious communities, and the “Jamestown Seventy”, an earlier effort to influence the politics of a particular state through deliberate migration. Jason’s essay eventually became the founding document of the Free State Project. In it, Jason proposed a mass migration, a voluntary resettlement of 20,000 libertarians, anarchists, anarcho-capitalists, pacifists, even freedom-minded Democrats and Republicans, to a single, relatively liberty-friendly state, where they could establish a beachhead of personal and economic freedom. Today, Jason is Director of the Center for Ethics in Society at Saint Anselm College.
For Whom: Those who want to be inspired by a vision of a state of Liberty In Your Lifetime — not in the virtual, theoretical world, but here in physical reality!

. . . 5:20 pm “Inner Self,” Mohammad Hormozi, dir. (15 min.) (Iran; subtitled) In this story about talent, repression, and opportunity, a violinist may not enter an administrative building to receive her performance credential because she lacks the formal hijab. . . . 6:10 pm “The Teleios Act” Evan Matthews, dir. (12 min.) In the not-so-distant future, the Teleios Act dictates whether a baby is perfect enough to be born into a perfect society. It’s for the best, right? But when the beloved Teleios spokesmodel conceives after a decade of infertility, a clerical mix-up threatens their lives.
. . . 6:30 pm “Cough” Jason Kempnich, dir. (11 min.) In this prescient 2014 short narrative, a virus has spread across the globe. Mask-wearing refugees are scouring the countryside for food and medicine, while hiding their sick from those who would kill them in order to protect themselves from contagion.
. . . 6:45 pm “Metrics” Grant Bergland, dir. (15 min) Bouncing between an unfulfilling personal and professional life, Tom Ford buys a virtual assistant. Out of the box, Marta leads Tom to choices he never imagined while selling him more products. In a not-so-distant future, Edward falls into a wormhole created by David Bowie’s death while having a heart-to-heart with his girlfriend June. (No explanations are needed.) In a bright but dystopian future 24 years later, June still mourns Edward’s disappearance while facing the dark reality of being imprisoned due to her age (the future’s solution to the problem of caring for the elderly). June is planning her escape when Edward suddenly reappears in her life.
. . . 9:30 pm “Where the Directives Grow,” Thomasz Agencki, dir. (38 min.) (Poland; subtitled) Cynical/satirical A young polish politician and libertarian, Dobromir Sośnierz, had a chance to be A MEP (Member of EU Parliament) for a year. Without any party affiliation he could afford to say things that a regular reelection-oriented politician would never dare to do. Now, at the end of his term, he takes us on a witty and delightful trip behind the scenes to show how the machinery of European democracy really works. If you think that European Parliament is a sensible democratic institution that represents the European population and promotes reasonable solutions to real problems through dialogue, you must watch this movie. And if you know that isn’t true, you will love this movie!
