Life is Good; AA at PorkFest
—————–
When: Wed, 9:00A _(60m)
Organizer: Mark Hansen, Organizer: Mark Hansen, Mark has been sober for over 6 years. He realized that alcohol was becoming a problem in his life, and didn’t want to be remembered as being an alcoholic. He didn’t want his children to remember him that way, and he didn’t want to die from it. As a former park ranger and current security officer at a hospital, he has seen his fair share of what alcohol addiction can do to a person. He has witnessed people going through detox. He has seen the physical and psychological effects of it, and he has seen people die from alcoholism and drug overdose. He didn’t want that inanimate object (alcohol) to win over his life, so he decided to be a warrior and a soldier to defeat it. Be a warrior. Life is Good!
For Whom:
For Whom: For anybody who is sober or trying to stay sober during the week, and for anybody who might be having a difficult time with substances and trying to stop. Is alcohol or other substances becoming overwhelming, consuming, or taking over your life? Habits can become addictions for some people, and when it becomes a problem, it may be time to stop. When your body gets used to having foreign substances in it every day (such as alcohol), it may be physiologically very difficult to stop or change the habit/addiction. I’ve found it more helpful to talk with others who have actually gone through it, than to talk with counselors who haven’t. —Mark

Health Hysteria Enables Tyranny
—————–
When: Wed, 11:00A _(60m)

In that time, he worked towards creating regulatory reforms for ambulance providers, strove to improve patient care, and received several awards for extraordinary efforts in the saving of a human life. As a Captain on his local Fire Department Jason ran the training department for a decade.

Since transitioning to his current role, Jason has spent the past few years travelling the country talking about Healthcare, how human beings are capable of amazing things, and other eclectic topics. He spends most of him time talking about how improving access to healthcare is the most important thing we can do for reform right now, how a one size fits all approach to healthcare reform won’t work, and what policy reforms we can make today to help people take control of their own healthcare. Having worked in both urban and rural environments, Jason’s background and experiences have given him a unique insight on the healthcare system and what we can do to fix it.

Jason is still a paramedic, volunteering on his hometown ambulance while living in Western Massachusetts with his wife and three boys. In addition to his speaking and paramedic work, he brews his own craft beer, is a member of the local county agricultural society, and is a youth hockey coach.
